Three ways to get your imaging to Dr. Hobbs
Dr. Hobbs reads the actual images, not just the radiology report, so the scans need to reach him before your visit or review. Use whichever of the three fits what you have: the portal for reports and a few images, a disc or your imaging center for a complete study.
1. Send it through the patient portal
Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute uses the ModMed patient portal. Log in, open a secure message to Dr. Hobbs’s office, and attach your radiology report and image files. Everything travels inside the portal; the website never stores medical records.
New to the practice? Call (219) 250-5010 and the office will set up your portal account. Portal messages accept PDFs and common image files; a complete MRI or CT study is usually too large, so send the report and key images here and use a disc or your imaging center for the full study.
2. Bring or mail the disc
Ask the imaging center or hospital where your scan was done for a copy on disc (sometimes a USB drive) along with the written report. Bring it to your appointment, or call the office for the mailing address if you are sending it ahead for a free MRI review.
3. Have the imaging center send it
Most imaging centers can transmit studies electronically to another practice. Call the office first so the team can tell the center exactly where to send it; a release form is usually required.
What to send
- The images themselves: the MRI or CT study on disc or as exported files, not a photo of the screen. If you have both an MRI and a CT, send both.
- The radiology report that came with each study.
- Recent X-rays, especially standing (upright) films, if you have them.
- For prior spine surgery: the operative report and any imaging done since.
Imaging centers hold studies for a limited time; request copies as soon as you know you want a review.
Your privacy
Medical images are protected health information. Send them only through the channels on this page or those the office gives you by phone. Do not email images, post them to social media, or paste reports into the website assistant, which is an educational tool and not part of your medical record. See website privacy and about this information.
What happens next
If you sent imaging for a free MRI review or free second-opinion review, Dr. Hobbs looks at the images and the office calls you to explain whether a consultation makes sense. If you are already scheduled, the imaging is in your chart before you arrive, so the visit starts with your scans on the screen. Traveling from out of the area?
Common questions
Can I upload my MRI to Dr. Hobbs online?
Yes, through the Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute patient portal (ModMed). Log in, start a secure message to Dr. Hobbs’s office, and attach your report and image files; new patients can call (219) 250-5010 to have a portal account created. A complete MRI or CT study is usually too large for a portal message, so send the report and key images that way and use a disc or your imaging center for the full study.
Can I just email my images?
No. Email is not a secure channel for medical records, and attachments are often too large. Use the patient portal, a disc, or your imaging center.
Is a photo of my MRI good enough?
A photo of the screen or a printed image is not enough for a surgical opinion. Dr. Hobbs needs the full study so he can scroll through every slice and measure the anatomy.
What if I only have the report?
Send what you have, and call (219) 250-5010. The office can usually help you request the images from the facility that performed the scan.
